Welcome to the Official Website of the Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika!

After working together for nearly two years, a group of dedicated Deutsch Langhaar enthusiasts debuts a new breed club, Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika. With the election of officers and ratification of by-laws, Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika became established on September 14, 2007. On March 15, 2008 in Fulda, Germany, the Deutsch Langhaar Verband (DLV) sanctioned the Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika as the 15th group by unanimous vote! Please see HERE for the official announcement on the DLV webpage. The DLV is a member of the JGHV, the umbrella organization in Germany for all hunting dog clubs. The JGHV provides the test regulations, authorizes the judges, and maintains the test records for member breed clubs. Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika will soon be recognized as a full member club of the JGHV. Other breed clubs in North America that are members of the JGHV include the VDD-GNA, JGV-USA, the NADKC, the Vereinigter CanAm Deutsch Kurzhaar Klub and the VDD Group Canada.

Note: The DL-GNA is now known as Gruppe Nordamerika. This is out of respect and deference to the VDD-GNA, who is commonly referred to as GNA. In order to distinguish ourselves and avoid duplication, DL-GNA will only be used for brevity; such as the website address, etc.

Please see HERE for official correspondence from Germany. Please also see HERE for third party professional translation by Astrid Geisler, contracted by Gruppe Nordamerika for all official communications since February 2008. As a result of the sanctioning of Gruppe Nordamerika, the DLV has mandated the following policies in regards to breeding and pedigrees:

1. All breeding related activity must be processed through Gruppe Nordamerika. This includes but is not limited to; breed warden/advisor counseling as required PRIOR to the start of the bitch’s heat cycle, puppy registration, stud registration, kennel registration and all matters spelled out in the Deutsch Langhaar Breeding Regulations. Although members are invited to belong to as many groups in Germany as they wish, all breeding related activity must go through Gruppe Nordamerika. See section 7.8 of the breed regulations for complete explanation. “A stud service may not occur without the presentation of the stud certificate. The certificate must be issued and signed by the respective Association Member Club”.

2. In Germany you may be members of other clubs, however ALL breed related issues must be handled through the group in your area. (I.e. if you live in Group Rheinland area you cannot go through Group Weser-Ems for breed related issues.) Refer to section 4.2 of the breed regulations. “The regional Member Club where the Breeder maintains his domicile shall be responsible for providing the counseling.”

Gruppe Nordamerika promotes DLs. Each individual member deciding to breed or promote DLs, must adhere to JGHV and DLV regulations. In order for DL puppies to receive an Ahnentafel, the person must be a member of Gruppe Nordamerika and thereby agree to the bylaws, rules and regulations and breeding rules and regulations. The Deutsch Langhaar Gruppe Nordamerika exists to protect the Deutsch Langhaar as the true accomplished versatile hunting companion it is today. While no system is perfect, the Gruppe Nordamerika recognizes that these quality versatile hunting dogs exist because of the German breeding program. The DLV is publishing an announcement in the next Mitteilungen in regards to Gruppe Nordamerika. It will explain that Gruppe Nordamerika is the only officially sanctioned DLV group in North America.
