Deutsch Langhaar Colors

There are 7 colors in which Deutsch Langhaars are commonly registered.  They are as follows:

  • Braun (brown)
  • Braun/Weißer Brustfleck (brown with white chest patch)
  • Dunkelschimmel (dark roan)
  • Braunschimmel (brown roan)
  • Hellschimmel (light roan)
  • Braun-Weiß (brown on white)
  • Forellenschimmel (all light ticking with no patches)

DLs that are solid brown will only produce braun or braun/weißer Brustfleck offspring regardless of what color of DL they are bred to.

When two braun/weißer brustfleck DLs are bred together, the resulting offspring will be a mix of braun, braun/weißer brustfleck, and schimmel.

When a braun/weißer brustfleck DLs is bred with a schimmel DL, the resulting offspring will be a mix of braun/weißer brustfleck, and schimmel.

When two schimmel DLs are bred together, the resulting offspring will all be various shades of schimmel.
